Religious Education

Francis Jordan Catholic School supports parents in the faith formation of their children by providing a range of rich experiences to develop faith and religious knowledge.

Religious Education is central to the curriculum and life of our school and is the first curriculum area. It is taught in context with the same systemic demands and rigour as all other areas of the curriculum. Guided units of work, mandated by the Bishops of W.A. are sequenced to help children relate to the Catholic faith within their daily lives.

In Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten, Religious Education is woven into the day in the form of prayer, God talk and biblical storytelling. The aim of the Religious Education program at this level is to introduce students to the person of Jesus and some of the basic teachings of the Church.

In other year levels the prescribed time allocations for RE teachings are:

  • Pre-Primary – Year 1: A minimum of 15 minutes per day
  • Year 2 – 6: Up to 30 minutes per day.

Religious Education lessons across the school are complemented by prayer and participation in masses, liturgies, liturgical singing and Christian service opportunities. It is through this lived faith that our school values of respect, integrity and trust are enriched and embedded in the life of our school.

Religious Education Assessment

As a CEWA school, our students complete the Religious Education Assessment in Year 3 and Year 5. This is a curriculum based assessment which reflects the progressive nature of the Religious Education units of work. It focuses on students’ ability to recall content about the Catholic religion and to assess their knowledge and understanding of this content area.
