Exploring Our World with Curiosity and Creativity
At Francis Jordan, Science is more than a subject. It’s a hands-on journey of discovery, taught by a specialist science teacher, that inspires curiosity and fosters a deep understanding of the world around us. Guided by the Western Australian Curriculum, our students are empowered to process, model, analyse, collaborate, and apply their learning through meaningful experimentation.
From investigating local ecosystems to exploring biological, physical, and technological systems, students engage in real world scientific inquiry that connects theory with practice. Our dynamic and engaging program encourages learners to hypothesise, question, explore the unknown, make predictions, and solve problems.
Science at Francis Jordan is a collaborative, creative, and intellectually stimulating experience. Students not only develop a strong understanding of key scientific concepts and processes but also gain insight into how scientific knowledge is developed and its relevance to everyday life and society. We aim to instil in our students the mindset to view Science as a powerful tool for shaping their world and future.
Languages – Italian
At Francis Jordan Catholic School, we are proud to offer a vibrant Italian language program led by a specialist teacher. Through engaging lessons, our students are encouraged to broaden their cultural horizons, develop intercultural understanding, and build a stronger sense of identity by exploring a new language.
Our Italian program goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. Students are inspired to question, investigate, and reflect on the connections between their own language and culture and those of others. This dynamic approach fosters curiosity, creativity, and global awareness.
Whole-School Cultural Engagement
We collaborate with other specialist areas and our classroom teachers to celebrate Italian culture across the school. Events include Italian-themed assemblies, cultural days featuring traditional music and food, and integration of Italian topics in cross-curricular projects.
At Francis Jordan, we are committed to nurturing globally minded learners through innovative and inclusive language education.
Physical Education
At Francis Jordan Catholic School, our Physical Education program is an integral part of the curriculum and is designed in accordance with the Western Australian Curriculum. The program is led by a dedicated specialist Physical Education teacher who brings expertise and enthusiasm to every lesson. Our aim is to support the physical, social, and emotional development of all students by encouraging participation, building confidence, and promoting a lifelong love of physical activity.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 engage in weekly physical education lessons that focus on developing fundamental movement skills, coordination, teamwork, and personal fitness. The program offers a variety of individual and team-based sports, as well as opportunities to explore new games and activities that cater to a range of interests and abilities.
A highlight of our sporting calendar includes our annual Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, where students are encouraged to participate, strive for personal bests, and celebrate the achievements of their peers in a fun and supportive environment. These events foster school spirit and provide a platform for students to demonstrate the skills they have learned throughout the year.
Students who excel in sport are given the opportunity to represent Francis Jordan in interschool competitions, competing with pride against local schools. These experiences help to build resilience, cooperation, and school pride.
Our Year 6 students enjoy additional opportunities to participate in Winter and Summer Interschool Sports Carnivals, where they can compete in sports such as soccer, rugby, netball, AFL, and cricket. These events are a rewarding culmination of their primary school sporting journey and help them to develop leadership, sportspersonship, and teamwork in a competitive yet friendly setting.
Through our comprehensive and inclusive sports program, we aim to inspire every student to lead an active, healthy lifestyle and to find joy in a range of physical activities.
STEAM
At Francis Jordan Catholic School, we are proud to offer a dedicated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program, delivered by a specialist STEAM teacher. Each class participates in a weekly STEAM lesson designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Our specialist-led approach ensures students are actively engaged in hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that integrate scientific exploration, technological innovation, artistic expression, engineering design, and mathematical reasoning.
Through exciting projects and real-world problem-solving tasks, students develop essential 21st-century skills such as collaboration, communication, and innovation. Whether they are building simple machines, experimenting with circuits, coding robots, designing digital art, or exploring environmental science, students are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, and reflect on their learning. Our STEAM program not only supports academic growth but also empowers students to become confident, curious learners who are prepared for the challenges of the future.
