A Message from the Principal – Issue 10
Dear Parents, Children and Friends,
We are now a few days away from finishing Term One. I would like to take the opportunity to thank many people in our community for their efforts during what has been an extremely busy start to the year.
To the staff of Francis Jordan who have worked tirelessly throughout the last ten weeks. To the parents, particularly those involved with the P&F and those who are Class Representatives, for their efforts in bringing our community together, as well as helping to raise funds for the children. To the children who have worked diligently, behaved appropriately and shown respect for others, we are very proud of your achievements.
On 1 January 2019, new regulations under the Public Health Act 2016 came into force, requiring Principals to take all reasonable steps to collect the immunisation status of all students enrolled at their school. During the term holidays, Mrs Nagy will be conducting an audit to ensure that we have a copy of every child’s AIR Immunisation History Statement. If it shows that we do not have a copy of your child’s statement, we will contact you early in Term Two to request a copy. In order to access your child’s AIR Immunisation History Statement, you can do so in the following ways:
- MyGov , by logging in to your Medicare online account
- The Medicare Express Plus App, accessed by logging into your Medicare account
- Visiting a Medicare or Centrelink office
- Calling the AIR General Enquiries Line on 1800 653 809.
If you don’t hold a Medicare card, call the AIR on 1800 653 809. Parents are automatically sent an AIR Immunisation History Statement when your child turns 18 months of age and again at 5 years of age or after your child has completed the four year old vaccination schedule, whichever comes first.
During the past few weeks, teachers have been busily completing reading assessments with each child in their class. These tests are based on the PM Benchmarks and the Informal Prose Inventory. We intend the specifically determine each child’s exact reading level, consistent across the school based on these two assessment programs. Should you wish to discuss the process, please contact me: email@example.com
The children will wear the Winter uniform during Terms Two and Three. One week’s grace is normally given at the commencement of Term Two. You will be informed when the uniform is expected to be work by all students without exception. For some reason last year, permission was given for boys to wear their short sleeve shirt. Please note that this is not part of the Winter uniform. Boys are expected to wear their long sleeve shirt. If they so desire, boys will be permitted to roll their sleeves to the elbow.
Holy Week Liturgies
All are warmly invited to our Holy Week liturgies this Friday (April 12). We commence at 9.30am in the Year 1/2 playground. After recess, we gather again at 11.00am on the Oval. Parents can come for a cuppa and a biscuit in the Library at 10.30 while we wait for the final two liturgies to begin.
Inter-School Swimming Carnival
We wish members of the Inter-School Swimming Squad the best of luck at this Friday’s Interschool Swimming Carnival. Miss Lawson and two other staff members will accompany the squad on the day.
I wish every family a lovely Easter and I hope that the holidays enable your children to play outside, ‘re-energise their batteries’ and look after their parents! I look forward to seeing you all on April 29.
