A Message from the Principal – Issue 14

Jun 12, 2019

Dear Parents, Children and Friends,

On Friday 31 May, our staff participated in a professional development day to create and analyse a data wall using our children’s reading data.  The day was full of robust and challenging conversations that will go on to impact the teaching and learning of literacy within the school.  We continue our work this week by setting individual goals for each child in reading and sharing these with the students, along with strategies and focus areas on how to get there.

Thank you to all our parents and families who joined us in celebrating the life of Francis Jordan at our whole school Mass today.  It was lovely to see every class involved in this celebration.  I thank Fr Francis for leading the liturgy, and Mr Purcell and Mrs Giannasi for their organisation of such a beautiful celebration.

This Sunday at 2.00pm our Year Six students will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Simon Peter Parish.  We wish them a joyous and reverent celebration that is filled with the warmth of the Holy Spirit.  All members of our school community are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:

  • the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
  • the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

Schools provide this information to education authorities; however, students names and personal information is not shared.  The collection of data is simply a sharing of the number of students in our school receiving adjustments and the type of adjustments they receive.

If you would like more information about this data collection, please read the parents, guardians and carers fact sheet which is available in a range of languages.
