Confirmation
Please keep our Year 6 students in your prayers this term as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday (June 15).
Confirmation Photos
Savvy Photography will be the Official Photographers taking the Photos during the Confirmation Mass on Sat 15th June at the 2pm Mass and will also be available in the Parish Centre to take Family Photos for the families of the children before and after the Mass.
If you would like to have your Family Photos taken please come to the Parish Centre as early as you can to avoid missing out.
We will be set up and ready to start taking photos from 12.15pm with the last photos taken at 1.50pm just before the start of Mass.
We will also be available for up to 1 hour after the Mass to take photos for anyone who missed out before the Mass.
Savvy Photography will also be the Official Photographers taking photos of the children processing into the Church, during Readings, during the Offertory and all Group Photos so please do not take any photos during the Mass.
Please try to colour coordinate what you will all be wearing and try to avoid having too many wearing black in the photo.
You will be notified once the proof photos are available for viewing.
The proof photos will be available for viewing on our website as well as in the studio for those who would still like to view them that way.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Veronica on either 0405 133 799 or 9401 6004. Many thanks

Curriculum News Issue 14
Reports
With Semester One reports due to be distributed in Week 10 of this term, I thought it would be timely to provide some information on how to read the document.
Understanding the report:
Children receive an overall grade (A to E) for their achievement in each learning area. In some learning areas they may also receive a grade for the learning area components assessed.
Grading Scale
GRADE DESCRIPTION:
A The student demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year level.
B The student demonstrates high achievement of what is expected for this year level.
C The student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level.
D The student demonstrates limited achievement of what is expected for this year level.
E The student demonstrates very low achievement of what is expected for this year level.
The A – E grade scale summarises the standard of achievement associated with each learning area. The scale describes the depth of knowledge, understandings and skills that children working at that standard typically show. If your child receives a `C’ grade, they are achieving at the required level for their year. Maintaining a grade in a learning area from one semester to the next is an indication of positive achievement and expected development. A child who is on an Individual Education Plan will have progress reported against learning outcomes outlined in the Individual Education Plan – not using A-E grades.
Learning Area – Student Work Scale (Effort)
O Outstanding VG Very good S Satisfactory I Inconsistent U Unsatisfactory
Kidz OT Essentials
Kidz OT Essentials currently runs the occupational therapy screening program at Francis Jordan Catholic School. In conjunction with the screening they also offer group therapy and individual intervention services. The sessions are run by one of their qualified occupational therapists during school hours, commencing in Term Two.

Wet Weather Procedures
As the weather has become colder over the past few weeks we have already needed to enact our Wet Weather Procedures a number of times. If it is raining in the morning, students are to wait undercover near their classrooms. Students are not permitted on the courts or oval if it is raining. At the end of the day, we will send an SMS to parents informing you that wet weather procedures are in place. This means that Year Three to Six students need to be collected from the Undercover Area. Year One and Two students are to be collected from outside the Year One classrooms, under the covered area. Pre-Kindy, Kindy and Pre-Primary students are collected from their classrooms as normal.

Medical News Issue 014
Asthma is a long-term lung condition. People with asthma have sensitive airways in their lungs which react to triggers, causing a ‘flare-up’. In a flare-up, the muscles around the airways squeeze tight, the airways swell and become narrow and there is more mucus. These things make it harder to breathe. An asthma flare-up can come on slowly (over hours, days or even weeks) or very quickly (over minutes). A sudden or severe asthma flare-up is sometimes called an asthma attack.
Our school has recently renewed our status as an Asthma Friendly school with the Asthma Foundation WA. One of the criteria for renewal was that all students requiring Asthma medication (reliever puffer) to be administered at school, do so using a spacer and (a mask for under 5 years of age). Our school Asthma Policy reflects this procedure.
Please ensure your child has their medication (reliever puffer), spacer and (a mask for under 5 years of age) clearly marked with their name in their school bag each day. Please do not store these in a plastic bag, a neoprene or paper bag is advised. If your child does not have a spacer or (a mask if required) then the school will need to provide these items for them. The cost of a disposable spacer is $6, a spacer for under 5 years is $16 and a mask is $6. You will be required to reimburse the school for these items.
Thank you for helping us to keep your child safe in an asthma friendly environment.
Kind regards
Anita Woodall

Woolworths Earn and Learn is BACK for 2019
This year the funds will go towards updating Kindy Resources – puzzles, books, game. To be a part of this, each time you shop at Woolworths between May 1 and June 25, you will earn ONE sticker for EVERY $10 spent. THEN stick your stickers to an OFFICIAL Sticker Sheet (each child will bring ONE home and more are available in the front office). Then, your child can ‘post’ completed Sticker Sheets either into the Earn and Learn box in the front office OR directly into the Earn and Learn box located at the front of Woolworths Currambine (make sure you fill up the box with OUR school logo on it!) It’s that simple to make a HUGE difference! Thanks for your support!

Francis Jordan Netball Club (FJNC) Issue 14
Week 6 – The storms held off!
We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and being back on the courts this past weekend! I was expecting to see photos of Heidi jumping in puddles on court, but thankfully the heavens did not open on us in the morning. Us oldies had to watch our U12s battle it out in the storms later on! The older girls froze their fingers off!
Team Sparklers (U7) – Team of the Fortnight
Coach Candice Wynne’s wonderful words for her team – For lots of our little sparklers it’s their first year of netball. They have put it lots of effort learning new skills and putting them all in together on the court on a weekend. They are all super excited to play each week and even after a long week at school Thursdays they turn up to training with big smiles on their faces. Over the last few weeks they have put their skills together on a Saturday morning, scored a few goals (it’s taken us a little while but we got there) & had lots of fun along the way. Looking forward to an enjoyable season.
Expressions of Interest
What is a club without players? We are reaching out to parents who would like to enrol their child with FJNC for Spring 2019 and Winter 2020 season. Please contact us and let us know you will be wanting to enrol with us for the next two seasons as it would be a shame for us not to have a succession plan.
Please contact us at francisjordannc@yahoo.com or send a message to us on FB for more information on joining the Committee, or if you would like to enrol your child for next season. Boys encouraged too!
Cadbury Fundraiser
Hi Families, we are starting our chocolate fundraiser for the winter season and we have a delicious box of chocolates for each family to sell. There will be ONE box per family. It will be $1 per chocolate – $60 per box. It will be due 4th July.
Instructions will be given but hey we all know what to do!! Any questions, contact me.

Hello to all our OSHClub families, we hope you had a lovely weekend! Update: As you are aware Diana has started as a our new full time coordinator as of last week. Message from Diana: The holiday brochure is now available online and at the service. The service will operate from Monday the 8th of July until Friday the 19th of July. There will be two excursions and incursions per week. We can’t wait to see you all for some holiday fun. Below is some valuable information for new parents and any changes that have been made to policies or procedures at OSHClub.
Parents please note: We are not permitted to have anyone on the premises prior to 7 am or after 6 pm. This is non-negotiable and if you are unable to drop/collect your child within the time frame you will need to organise an alternative person to drop/collect your child. YOUR BOOKING IS NOT CONFIRMED UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD WRITTEN OR VERBAL COMMUNICATION FROM US. You may note that we have places available although this does not represent the Educator/child ratio which is what determines if we are able to add a booking. This ratio is 1:10 (one educator to 10 children) Everything that we do is for the benefit of your child’s health and wellbeing. We continually strive to make OSHClub an enjoyable experience which is stimulating and fun for all the children. Our Weekly Program and menu is displayed in the undercover area for your viewing. Below is important regarding medical conditions:
PARENTS PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A HAT, AND JACKET AS THE WEATHER IS BECOMING A LOT COLDER.
