Curriculum News Issue 15
Mathematics Interchange
At Francis Jordan we have been grouping our children for the Number strand of Mathematics for many years. After taking much time to consider if this is best pedagogical practice, we have decided not to continue with Maths Interchange for Semester Two. Research shows that we will have greater impact on your child’s learning by having dedicated numeracy blocks. Our numeracy block (60 minutes) will be designed around the six key principles for effective teaching of mathematics:
- Articulating goals
- Making connections
- Fostering engagement
- Differentiating challenges
- Structuring lessons
- Promoting fluency and transfer.
The hour will be broken up into a four-part lesson.
- Mental/Warm-up
- Introduction – This involves letting kids in on the secret
- Main Lesson Body – This involves where the big learning takes place and the choice of proficiency strand is important
- Plenary/reflection activities – This is crucial for consolidation and allows for the development of reasoning.

Children’s Book Week
Next term we will be having a dress up day, Week five on Wednesday 21/8/19, to celebrate Children’s Book Week. Students can dress as their favourite book character and a parade will be held in the Hall during the morning. Vouchers will be awarded to the winners.
Scholastic Book Fair
This year’s Book Fair will be Week seven in the Library. The Fair will be held over two days Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 September. Books and novelty items will be on sale during the lunch breaks and after school so parents are able to come in and purchase books.
The school receives commission from the Book Fair which is then used to purchase new books for our library.
Students can enter the colouring competition during the Fair week, book prizes will be awarded to Lower, Middle and Upper class winners.
Further information will be provided next term.

Francis Jordan Netball Club (FJNC) Issue 15
Week 7-8 – Winter has arrived in force!!
Well done to all our girls and teams for making it to the courts again this week, under adverse flu and rain conditions! Bronwyn says she’s going to bring a sprinkler to training on Tuesday, so we get used to the wet weather which tends to hit around 12.30pm! mmm let’s hope we don’t have natural Sprinklers this week and are all able to train as it’s a great time to reflect on our game and see what new skills we can learn.
Team Phoenix (U10) – Team of the Fortnight
Coach Sandra Kent is super proud to see her team applying their netball skills amazingly each week – a warm welcome to Maria, Keeley, Lilly and Scarlet, it’s their first year with FJNC. We also have Orlagh and Ellena returning and playing up from U/9 and are thankful to have Arabella and Niamh from FJCS year 4, continuing their netball careers with FJNC and bringing their experience and passion to the team. Fabulous Phoenix are growing from strength to strength and are enjoying forming a lovely team of courageous netballers. We love watching your games each week and our parents’ cheers get louder and louder! Thank you, FJ Phoenix, for all your hard work and dedication! 3-2-1 Go Phoenix!
News from our Registrar – Mark Kent
Over the next season, FJNC representative body will comprise a member from each team (coach/or manager) so that we can all have an input into how our club is being managed and what we want for our athletes. This will create a great opportunity for all year groups to drive our club forward and enjoy being a part of our children’s netball development. As the club is evolving with our younger age groups, we are looking forward to seeing a vibrant FJNC club with as many players as possible out on the courts each Saturday! Please contact me for further information, francisjordannc@yahoo.com.au

Woolworths Earn and Learn is BACK for 2019
This year the funds will go towards updating Kindy Resources – puzzles, books, game. To be a part of this, each time you shop at Woolworths between May 1 and June 25, you will earn ONE sticker for EVERY $10 spent. THEN stick your stickers to an OFFICIAL Sticker Sheet (each child will bring ONE home and more are available in the front office). Then, your child can ‘post’ completed Sticker Sheets either into the Earn and Learn box in the front office OR directly into the Earn and Learn box located at the front of Woolworths Currambine (make sure you fill up the box with OUR school logo on it!) It’s that simple to make a HUGE difference! Thanks for your support!

The service will operate from Monday the 8th of July until Friday the 19th of July from 7am – 6pm. This includes two excursions and incursions per week. Bookings made within 5 days for a Vacation Care session will incur an extra charge of $4.00 per day per child. 7 days notice is required for cancellation of a Vacation care booking. We can’t wait to see you all for some holiday fun. Below is some valuable information for new parents and any changes that have been made to policies or procedures at OSHClub.
Parents please note: We are not permitted to have anyone on the premises prior to 7 am or after 6 pm. This is non-negotiable and if you are unable to drop/collect your child within the time frame you will need to organise an alternative person to drop/collect your child. YOUR BOOKING IS NOT CONFIRMED UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD WRITTEN OR VERBAL COMMUNICATION FROM US. You may note that we have places available although this does not represent the Educator/child ratio which is what determines if we are able to add a booking. This ratio is 1:10 (one educator to 10 children) Everything that we do is for the benefit of your child’s health and wellbeing. We continually strive to make OSHClub an enjoyable experience which is stimulating and fun for all the children. Our Weekly Program and menu is displayed in the undercover area for your viewing.
