AN INVITATION TO LEARN ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH RCIA PROGRAM – 2019
Each year, St Simon Peter Parish conducts a special program for people who are not Catholics, but would like to know about the Catholic Faith, called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It is a relaxed and friendly program in which people learn about God and His Church in weekly meetings in an adult group. They get accurate information about what the Catholic Church really teaches, and there is ample time for discussion. There are no obligations and no pressure. The program concludes at Easter when people make their own choice to enter the Church and receive the Sacraments. It will begin with an introductory session in the Parish Centre on Wednesday evening 31st July at 7.30pm and continue on a weekly basis until Easter when those who want to, can enter the Church. Catholics who were baptised but did not subsequently receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation are also welcome. Every year people come along to listen, and every year they find themselves responding to the truth. Enquiries to the Parish office on 9300 4885

Timetable
You may have noticed that the specialist timetable for this semester has changed. Therefore, the days your child goes to sport, music, technology and Indonesian have changed. The reason for this change is to allow most classes to have uninterrupted teaching blocks in the morning and after recess. These teaching blocks will be used for our structured literacy and numeracy times.
Our 90-120 minute literacy block will consist of the explicit teaching of a synthetic spelling program, reading comprehension skills and writing (whereby many classes use the Talk 4 Writing program). The 60-90 minute numeracy block will incorporate the teaching of mental maths, explicit teaching of the concept, activities that develop understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning, and finally a plenary or reflection time. These lessons will be differentiated to cater for the range of academic levels within the classroom.
I will continue to provide information about the literacy and numeracy blocks in future newsletters.
