Dear Parents, Children and Friends,

One Big Voice
Congratulations to our Year Four students who took part in One Big Voice on Friday evening. More than 4000 students took part in the event held at the Perth Arena and by all accounts the night was a spectacular success. Congratulations to the students who took part and thank you to Mrs Giannasi for her efforts in organising the children to take part and for supervising them at the event.

 Fathers’ Day Breakfast
What an incredible turnout for our Fathers’ Day breakfast on Friday! We had over 250 parents, grandfathers and male role models join us for a sausage sizzle and liturgy. I thank our male role models for taking the time to join the children on this day and allowing them to recognise and thank you for the gift of yourselves.

I sincerely thank and recognise the contribution of our staff in organising and serving breakfast on the day. A special mention to Mrs Admans, Mrs Richards and Mr Purcell; your contributions are much appreciated.
We also thank our wonderful P&F for holding the Fathers’ Day stall late last week. It is always a delight to watch our children carefully select the perfect gift for their dad or grandfather.

First Communion
I invite our families to keep our Year Four students in their thoughts and prayers as they undertake preparations for their First Communion over the next few weeks. On Friday, September 13 the children will take part in the First Communion Retreat held in the school hall. The students will then make their First Communion at St Simon Peter church between 14 -15 and 21-22 of September. I thank Mrs Hawley, Mrs Rennie and Mr Purcell for preparing the children to undertake this important Sacrament.

Mrs Danielle Hawley will be going on maternity leave from Friday 13 September 2019 and I know you will join me in wishing her God’s blessings on her impending birth.  
As we farewell Mrs Hawley, we also welcome Miss Lauren Franchina to Francis Jordan. Miss Franchina has been appointed to the position of Year Four classroom teacher for the remainder of the school year and  I know you will join me in welcoming her to our school.

Francis Jordan Catholic School Concert
The Francis Jordan Catholic School Concert is fast approaching and the children are busily placing the finishing touches on their performances. The concert dates are Tuesday, 10 September and Wednesday, 11 September. Just a reminder that children need to be dressed in their full winter school uniform for the concert evening.

I thank our families for supporting us in the initial allocation of only two tickets per family; this ensures each family is able to access tickets to view their child’s performance. As of Monday, tickets are now openly available in any quantity for our families to purchase. I look forward to joining our community on these two very special nights.

P&F Meeting
I would like to warmly invite our families to join us this evening at 6 PM for the P&F Meeting. The P&F is busily planning the upcoming quiz night, scheduled for Friday, 1 November. Please save the date in your diary as this promises to be a wonderful community event.

Kindergarten & Pre Kindy2020
We still have a number of places available for Kindergarten and Pre Kindy 2020. May I ask our families to please see Mrs Nagy in the office to book an appointment to have your Kindergarten or Pre Kindy interview as offers are currently being made to families.

First Communion
Please keep our Year 4 students in your prayers over the coming weeks. They are in their final preparations to receive this important Sacrament over two weekends in September. If your child is in Year 3, 5 or 6, they are invited to be part of our choir that will sing at the Mass on Sunday September 22 at 10.00am. If you have not yet responded to Mrs Giannasi, please contact me by email if your child is willing to do this great service: damian.purcell@cewa.edu.au 

 Student Council Fundraising Day
Each year, the Student Council decides on a cause for fundraising in Term Three. This year they will support the Perth Children’s Hospital Cancer ward. The reason for this decision centres on the fact that this Year 6 cohort went through with Charlie Ryan, who passed away at the beginning of Year One. The students felt that this would be a final opportunity to remember Charlie as a loved classmate. The children are asked to wear free dress on the day and donate to the PCH Cancer Ward. You can donate a toy, game, plush toy, etc. or your child can donate money. The Student Council intend to use the toys / money to create toy hampers. They will then visit PCH and present the hampers to the staff in the Cancer ward to distribute to children who would greatly benefit from a toy hamper. The fundraising day is Thursday 19 September. Please support this fabulous cause generated by our Student Council.

Mass at The Salvatorian House
Year 5W will be celebrating Mass at the Salvatorian House on Wednesday 11 September. This opportunity reinforces the close links the school has with the Salvatorian order, founded by Father Francis Jordan.

Literacy Dedicated Time
To showcase what classes are doing in their literacy dedicated time, in each newsletter, I will include a blurb from our classroom teachers as well as some photos.  This week Pre-Primary has the spotlight!

Pre-Primary Literacy Block
Our morning begins with half an hour of reading. Reading may consist of whole group modelled reading, small group guided reading or independent reading. Reading is followed by an hour of small group rotations in which the children complete four 15-20 minute language activities. These activities change daily and include, dictation, word-building, sound-swap, writing, art and craft activities related to our focus book, reading games, word search activities, cooking, reading and spelling games on our class devices and more. Francis Jordan Catholic School Concert

 

The concert will be held over two nights.

Venue: Redmond Theatre, Prendiville Catholic College, Prendiville Ave, Ocean Reef.

Dates: Tuesday 10 September YEAR 2, YEAR 4 and YEAR 6

          Wednesday 11 SeptemberYEAR 1, YEAR 3 AND YEAR 5

The following groups of children will be performing both nights. Parents, please note that you will only need to buy a ticket for the concert night that your child’s Year group is allocated. You do not need a ticket for both nights.

Dress Requirements for the Concert
All children MUST be dressed in full Winter School Uniform. (Same as for Performing Arts)

Option 1 – the school tunic, school shirt, tie, school jumper, green school tights, polished black school shoes (not black sneakers), green ribbons/scrunchies, green clips (bobby pins are okay)

Option 2 – long school grey trousers, school shirt, tie, school jumper, polished black school shoes (not black sneakers) and no hair gel.

All children are required to come to school on Tuesday 10 September and Wednesday 11 September dressed in their sports uniform so that their Winter School Uniform is clean for the concert.

Arrival and Departure Times for the Concert
Children must be at the Prendiville Catholic College Performing Arts Centre no later than 5.30pm on their allocated concert night.  The concert commences at 6.00pm sharp. Children will be able to be collected from the foyer of the Performing Arts Centre at the conclusion of the concert. We will release them in Year groups which will be announced. Please be patient and do not block the entry way that the children will be using to enter the foyer.

At no time are parents allowed to enter the backstage area.

Children may bring with them water only to drink, a snack and a quiet activity(for example, a book to read, electronic games or i-pods etc. in a marked bag. These are to be taken only at the parent’s discretion.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR CHILD WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ITEMS AND NOT THE SUPERVISING TEACHERS.

Tickets
Tickets will cost $15 each. This is to cover the cost of hiring Prendiville Catholic College Performing Arts Centre and the bus to shuttle the children to the venue for their rehearsal (see information below).

Tickets are now on sale via the following booking website:  www.trybooking.com

Due to the limited number of seats available for each night’s performance (300 seats available), we are asking parents to only purchase two tickets per family. This will then allow all families to have the opportunity to attend their child’s Concert.

As of Monday 3 September, families will then be able to book extra tickets if they are available.

Rehearsal at Prendiville
All children will be travelling to and from Prendiville Catholic College by bus some time during the day on Tuesday 10 September. This will be the only rehearsal at Prendiville before the two nights of the Concert.

Please ensure that any child who is playing an instrument for the concert brings their instrument and music to school on the rehearsal day, Tuesday 10 September.

It is essential that you fill in the permission slip below and return it to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible.

Parking
Parking is available at the venue. Turning into Prendiville Ave from Marmion Ave, take the first turn left into the driveway (opposite the BP petrol station). There will be a sign directing you to the Performing Arts Centre parking. Follow the driveway and enter an enclosed tennis court. Parking attendants will be there to usher you. If this car park gets full, parking will be available in the Prendiville bus bay further along the road, opposite Saint Simon Peter School or in the front school car park (back one will be locked). You will then need to walk along the footpath (not through Prendiville School) to the Performing Arts Centre car park entry to access the venue.

DVD Information
Mr Seamons will be filming both concerts and will then produce a professional keepsake DVD. The cost of the DVD will be $25.00 each.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT THE SCHOOL CONCERT IS A COMPULSORY EVENT AND THAT STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND FOR THE NIGHT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED.

Program Update

Hello to all our OSHClub families, we hope you had a lovely week!

The school holidays are approaching and our service will be open for vacation care 🙂 Monday the 30th of September is a Public Holiday so we will be closed however we will be running from Tuesday the 1st of October until Friday the 11th of October. Yay!
We have several incursions and excursions planned and can’t wait to see you all!
You can now make bookings via the app or website.

This week’s goal is: Children developing strong self-confidence.
Some activities we will be focusing on this week are:

  • Chalk Painting
  • Beanbag balance
  • Animal rescue home corner
  • Soccer competition
  • Applying sunscreen discussion and…
  • Plus much more!

We can’t wait to see you there!

Below is some valuable information for new parents and any changes that have been made to policies or procedures at OSHClub.

  • At NO TIME are your children out of our sight. We pride ourselves on being vigilant and our priority is the safety and wellbeing of your child.
  • Please understand that from 2.40 pm we have children arriving after school to OSHClub. It is essential we are greeting each child, ensuring that they are safely within our boundaries and we are often busy collecting smaller children from their classroom.
  • Due to the above please understand our need for you to contact us between 7-9 am or after 3 pm in the afternoon to discuss any issues.
  • If we do not answer your call, we are involved with the children. Please leave a text message and we will get back to you asap.
  • If you have any difficulties or problems with your Account, you must contact our Customer Service Accounts number on 1300 395 735.

Parents please note: We are not permitted to have anyone on the premises prior to 7 am or after  6 pm. This is non-negotiable and if you are unable to drop/collect your child within the time  frame you will need to organize an alternative person to drop/collect your child.

YOUR BOOKING IS NOT CONFIRMED UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD WRITTEN OR VERBAL COMMUNICATION FROM US. You may note that we have places available although this does not represent the Educator/child ratio which is what determines if we are able to add a booking.
This ratio is 1:10 (one educator to 10 children)
Everything that we do is for the benefit of your child’s health and wellbeing. We continually strive to make OSHClub an enjoyable experience which is stimulating and fun for all the children. Our Weekly Program and menu is displayed in the undercover area for your viewing.

Below is important regarding medical conditions:

  • Any medication and the required forms that your child may need. (If you are unsure of the forms required for your child please do not hesitate to ask.)
  • We keep a copy of expiry dates and email you with new forms and medication reminders a few weeks prior to expiration. Please note that your child will be unable to attend OSHClub if they do not have their correct forms and medication required.

PARENTS PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A HAT AND JACKET.
