Counselling

Francis Jordan Catholic School provides social and emotional support for students through the Counselling programme.

Counselling provides the opportunity for students to explore problems relating to school life including academic performance, social issues with peers or overall well-being. Students work individually or in small groups to develop and use strategies to manage issues and practice new ways of coping. Counselling takes place in a supportive and confidential atmosphere. The Counsellor works closely with the Principal and parents to best support the well-being of each student.

Where appropriate the Counsellor will suggest families refer to other organisations for specialised support. Families wishing to use this free, confidential service fill in a Referral form available from the front Office or through the Class Teacher.

Assistance can be provided with issues such as:

  • Dealing with anxieties and fears.
  • Dealing with separation and family conflict.
  • Grief and Loss.
  • Behavioural concerns.
  • Building confidence, resiliency and self-esteem.
  • Anger Management.
  • Bullying issues.
  • Peer problems at school.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Friendship issues.
  • Social Skills.

The Francis Jordan School Counsellor is:

Margaret Brown MSocSc (Cnsig&Psycthyp), LLB, BA. Dip Tchg.

She can be contacted at Francis Jordan Catholic School every Thursday
